One of the Best Compact Dehumidifiers on the Market
If you’ve read an article or two on my website, you’ll already know I’m doing my best to cover as much ground as possible when it comes to dehumidifiers. Not just in terms of volume, but variety as well. There are large dehumidifiers which are purposely built to get rid of the moisture inside your entire home, or basement, but there are also smaller and more portable solutions on the market.
Eva-dry is known for making some of the best compact dehumidifiers, so I decided to check out one of its top selling models, the Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier. Let’s see what it’s all about.
Basic Info
Apart from getting rid of excess moisture a dehumidifier still wears many other “hats”, and the Eva-dry Electric Petite Dehumidifier certainly excels at this. Due to technology used in its construction (which I will get to later), this unit is suitable for rooms up to 1,100 cubic feet in volume. But, despite its relatively small size it’s highly efficient and can collect up to 8 ounces of water per day.
With dimensions of only 6.5 x 5.3 x 8.5 inches and weighing in at just 1lb, it’s safe to say it’s very portable and lightweight.
How Does It Work?
This unit falls into the category of electronic dehumidifiers which are based on Peltier technology, or Peltier heat pumps to be more exact. For some reason, most websites offer scarce information on how it actually works, so I went ahead and did some research for you. You see, electronic dehumidifiers take advantage of the Peltier heat pump where a cool surface is generated, and it’s then able to quickly condense water present in the air.
The benefit of this approach is this sort of dehumidifier is much quieter than a refrigerant type since it doesn’t have a mechanical compressor. But, there are downsides as well. In order to condense the moisture via a Peltier heat pump, an electronic dehumidifier uses electricity. That’s why this concept is usually used for small dehumidifiers, because the large ones would use too much electricity, resulting in higher energy bills.
Where You Can Use It
Its lightweight design makes it just about perfect for any room, basement, or even an office since it’s so quiet. The bathroom is one place in the home which suffers most from excess moisture and humidity, and this dehumidifier will dry the air in no time. Since there are no mechanical noises you can put this device in your bedroom so the air quality is better, but you’re not constantly disturbed.
Depending on the size of your basement, this compact dehumidifier can be used there as well. You need your basement to be dry not just because of the stuff you store in it, but because all that humidity can get into the foundations of the house, compromising its structural integrity.
The Eva-dry Electric Petite is small enough to fit inside most closets, so you won’t have to worry about your clothes getting damaged, and taking this baby to your office will help a lot during those hot, humid summer months.
Removable Reservoir
The removable reservoir in this unit is easy to clean or replace, and I love the fact that you don’t have to worry about any water spilling over since it shuts itself off once it reaches full capacity.
The Verdict
I think this dehumidifier is ideal for smaller houses or individual rooms, as well as smaller basements. In fact, I was hard pressed to find anything wrong with it. It’s very light, portable and it deals with excess moisture efficiently.
As opposed to refrigerant dehumidifiers which tend to be somewhat noisy, this one is whisper-quiet since it doesn’t have any mechanical parts. All things considered the unit is efficient, compact and affordable and I would be glad to have it in my home. If you share my opinion after reading this review, go to Amazon to find one.
