Honeywell DH70W Review

Perfect for Rooms with Little Extra Space

Let’s be honest here – we don’t all have the space in our homes or offices to set a dehumidifier in the middle of the room or even a few feet from the wall. Most of the units on the market suck air in from the back and recycle it out through the top, and they need at least two feet of free space from the wall. Some also work with side vents, which means they need some free space on either side to function properly. So if the room isn’t very large, the problem is that the dehumidifier might not fit in properly. Before you know it, you find yourself re-arranging furniture or stubbing your toes on it as you walk through the room.

Luckily, the Honeywell DH70W is different. It sucks air in through the front, and it vents the air back out through the top. This will allow you to place it flush against any wall without worry. It isn’t without many other great qualities, though, so let’s take a look at those now.

Easy Control Panel

I love technology as much as the next guy, but sometimes the control panels on these units are difficult to use. I love that this one is simple. It has all the functions you need without all the hassle of trying to figure out how to work it. Simple, soft touch buttons allow you to turn functions on and off and to adjust your settings. You can use this panel to set the timer, adjust your desired humidity level, change the temperature of the air it blows out, and select between two different fan levels. If I’m honest, each of those incredible functions deserves its own little section on this page, but let’s move on to some more exciting features.

Digital Sensors

One thing I absolutely love about this dehumidifier is its digital sensors. By selecting a pre-defined humidity level you can create just the atmosphere you want. Simply pick the humidity level you prefer and let the unit turn itself on and off whenever that level is reached in the room. You may want to experiment with this until you get just the right level for your needs, but the ability to do so is not standard among dehumidifiers. Some others have their own predefined level at which they turn on and off, while most others require you to manually turn the unit on and off.

If you are someone who’s humidity level changes in your room, this feature is key. It is also great for people who want to maintain a certain level for their pets or plants when they are away. You can, quite literally, set it and forget it. That is, of course, until it needs to be emptied.

Continuous Drain Option

Since this is a refrigeration-type dehumidifier, it will collect condensation in the form of water. This water will empty into a container which will occasionally need to be emptied. I know that emptying these containers can be annoying and, sometimes, messy. As someone who has dropped one of these containers in the past, I understand the importance of a continuous drain option.

You have the ability to hook this dehumidifier into your plumbing system or simply allow it to drain directly into a basement drain, sink, bathtub, or shower. It does not come with a hose, but sometimes it’s better that way because the hoses these units come with are specific to the unit and difficult to replace if they break. This unit, on the other hand, works with any regular garden hose.

Air Filter Included

Why run an air purifier and a dehumidifier at the same time? All you will end up doing is raising your electricity bill and having to find space to house both units. Unlike many other options on the market, this Honeywell unit filters air as it removes moisture from your environment. A re-usable air filter slides easily in and out of the front of the unit. It removes large and small particles from the air, including pet hair and dust. To clean the filter, simply slide it out of its holding place and run it under the tap or garden hose.

Easy Roll Caster Wheels

If you aren’t able to utilize the continuous drain option you may feel a little weary about the hefty water tank. “How will I empty this thing without spilling it?” you may ask yourself. Don’t worry – this unit is on wheels! You can easily wheel it off to the bathroom or wherever you plan to drain it, and remove the tank in that room to minimize the amount of space you must travel across with a brimming water tank. This is especially good for people who have wrist or arm problems that prevent them from carrying things far in the first place.

All in all, the Honeywell DH70W is one of the better dehumidifiers you can find. It’s got all the functionality that you may need, plus the ability to place it against a wall. On top of that, as you can see here on Amazon, it’s extremely affordable as well. What more could you want?
