Whynter RPD-421EW Dehumidifier Review

An Effective and Efficient Dehumidifier With a Direct Drain Option

Selecting a favorite among mid-sized dehumidifiers wasn’t easy. Let me tell you, the competition out there is steep. There were times when I felt torn among the options. That is, until I stumbled across this fine piece of machinery.

If you read nothing else on this page and must base your decision on only one factor, make it this one: the ability to hook this dehumidifier directly into your plumbing system. Sure, it’s slowly becoming mainstream for dehumidifiers to have a continuous drain option, but there are still dehumidifiers on the market that don’t have this feature. Avoid these.

Auto-Settings

There are few things more convenient than appliances which run themselves. In a world always increasing its pace, it can be hard to keep up with everything we try to jam into our daily routines. It used to be that you would have to time how long it generally took to fill your dehumidifier, and ensure that you were there to empty it. With new technology, this smart unit will turn itself off as soon as it gets full to avoid any overflow problems (that is, if you don’t use the drain hose). Now, you can simply go over and empty it whenever is convenient for you.

The unit also has a built-in restart system. This convenience is one rarely considered when we step out to purchase our dehumidifiers, but it is also one which can make a big difference. Do you like to set your dehumidifier to a certain level and set certain on and off times each day using the electronic panel? Have you ever considered how annoying this will be to reset after a power outage or if you ever need to unplug your unit? It doesn’t sound like that big of a deal, but it can cut precious time out of your day. Not to mention that many of us don’t think of this after a power outage and it takes us a few days to even realize our dehumidifier isn’t working at all. Well, that will never happen again.

Other Impressive Features

Look, I don’t want to spend all day here telling you about this Whynter dehumidifier. I do have plenty more to say about it, but will keep this short since we’ve already covered its major selling features. Among its other impressive features are a fully electronic, soft-touch button panel which allows you to control its many functions. Using this panel, you can turn it on and off, adjust the timer, adjust the humidity level, and even adjust the fan speed level (I would recommend the use of a drain hose so you can run it on lower speed).

Three Sizes

I realize that I’ve been talking about the 40-pint version of this dehumidifier this entire time. I also realize that I’ve listed this as my favorite/best mid-sized dehumidifier. I stand by my decisions one hundred percent. I do, however, also want to point out that this one is available in a smaller and a larger size. If you follow my link, you will see the 40 pint model, but you also have the choice to choose a 30-pint and a 60-pint model. My confidence that this is a great choice with its 40-pint capacity also means I would wholeheartedly trust the other options. In fact, the 60-pint may even be more value for money.

The Verdict

Honestly, despite steep competition in the first stages of my search for the best mid-sized dehumidifier, I have to say that this one is a clear winner. It is, hands down, the best option available in terms of its quality and features. Like the many satisfied customers whose reviews I have read, you will not be disappointed.
